Buyer guide
Perfume samples: what each stage confirms
We sample in stages so that each decision is made before money is spent on the next. First the scent, blended at your concentration, so you judge only the smell. Then a full sample in your actual packaging. Then the tests that only bulk components can show. Samples carry a charge, refunded against your first order.

Stage 1: scent selection
You smell oils from over 500 we hold in stock, or we request samples from the fragrance houses. Smell them on a blotter and, if you can, on skin. Confirms: which scent, and from which fragrance house.
Stage 2: scent sample
The chosen oil is blended in alcohol, or in an alcohol-free base, at the concentration in your brief. You smell the product as it will be, not the raw oil. Confirms: the concentration and the smell of the finished liquid. Does not confirm: how it looks or sprays in your bottle.
Stage 3: full sample
A complete sample in your actual bottle, pump, cap, label and box. A sample charge applies, refunded against your first order. Confirms: the look, the spray, the feel in the hand, the box fit. Does not confirm: long-term stability or transit, because a hand-made sample is not a bulk component.
Stage 4: tests on real components
- Stability, with your packaging, over a period agreed per project.
- Compatibility of the juice with the pump, the bottle coating and the cap.
- Weight loss on small sizes under 30ml, where liquid can slowly escape between pump and actuator.
- Transit and drop testing of the packed carton.
Confirms: that the product stays the same on the shelf and arrives intact. These tests can change the design. A finish that scratches in transit will be changed and tested again, even after the order is placed.
Stage 5: bulk
Bulk is checked against the approved sample before packing and again at final inspection. If you use a third-party inspector, they come at this point.
Two habits that save weeks
- Give one person on your side the final say on scent and on packaging.
- Send feedback on a sample in one message, with photos, rather than in pieces.
Questions buyers ask
Why not make a full sample straight away?
Because packaging samples cost time and money, and they are wasted if the scent changes. Approving the scent first avoids that.
Is the sample charge refunded?
Yes, against your first order.
Will bulk smell exactly like the sample?
It should match the approved sample. Perfume also develops as it rests after mixing, which is why the scent sample is blended at your real concentration.
